Mario was first called “Jumpman”
Mario was first introduced in the classic arcade game “Donkey Kong” (1981) under the name “Jumpman”. The name Mario came later, inspired by Mario Segale, the landlord of the warehouse where Nintendo's US office was located. The story goes that Mario Segale was about to collect rent, then the developers decided to use his name for their main character.
Mario was originally a carpenter
Before Mario donned his iconic red plumber's uniform, he was a carpenter. This profession was chosen because “Donkey Kong” was set in a construction site. It wasn't until Mario got his own game, “Mario Bros.” (1983), he was renamed a plumber to better fit the game's underground sewer theme.

Mario's world famous music
The music of Super Mario is inextricably linked to the franchise. The most famous tune is the “Super Mario Bros.” theme, and was composed by Koji Kondo. At the time he made it, very little was possible in terms of sound for games. But Kondo did not have more than a few notes to create the legendary melodies that still appear in the Mario games.

Mario and the movie world
The new Mario film is not the first attempt to make the character a star on the silver screen. In 1993, a live-action movie called “Super Mario Bros.” starring Bob Hoskins as Mario and John Leguizamo as Luigi. The film was not a success and received many negative reviews. Hopefully the 2023 Mario movie is better!

Mario kills Toads every time he breaks a block
We conclude with some obscure Mario facts. This is from the Super Mario Bros manual. One day, the kingdom of the peaceful mushroom people was invaded by the Koopa, a tribe of turtles known for their black magic. The silent, peace-loving mushroom people turned into stones, bricks, and even field horsehair plants, and the Mushroom Kingdom fell into ruins. The only one who can undo the magic spell on the mushroom people and return them to their normal selves is Princess Toadstool, the daughter of the Mushroom King. Unfortunately, she is currently in the hands of the great Koopa Turtle King. Mario, the hero of this story (perhaps), hears about the plight of the mushroom people and sets out on a mission to free the Mushroom Princess from the clutches of the evil Koopa and restore the fallen kingdom of the mushroom people. You are Mario! It's up to you to save the mushroom people from the Koopa's black magic!
