Charlie Sheen was born Carlos Irwin Estévez, the son of actor Martin Sheen. His childhood was anything but normal: his father was often away filming, and Charlie was exposed to Hollywood's excesses early on. He started drinking, partying and rebelling at a young age.

In high school, Charlie Sheen was anything but a model student. He skipped class, had poor grades and was more interested in partying than studying. Shortly before graduation he was expelled from Santa Monica High School, and that's when he decided to throw himself fully into acting.

His first big film role was in Oliver Stone's Platoon (1986), in which he played a young soldier in the Vietnam War.
