The fastest roller coaster in the world is Falcon’s Flight in Saudi Arabia. This giant opened at the end of 2025 and reaches a bizarre top speed of 250 km/h. With this, it dethrones the long-time record holder Formula Rossa. The track is also the highest and longest in the world, featuring a free fall of more than 150 meters.
Speed is the holy grail for many theme park fans. Where we used to find the 100 km/h limit exciting, modern launch coasters easily exceed double that.
Here are the 10 speed monsters that will make your cheeks flap.
1. Falcon’s Flight (250 km/h) – Saudi Arabia
This roller coaster in Six Flags Qiddiya is in a league of its own. The numbers are almost hard to fathom: a speed of 250 kilometers per hour and a track length of four kilometers. As a result, the ride lasts for minutes instead of seconds. The trains have a special windshield, so you do not need to wear safety goggles despite the hurricane force in your face.
2. Formula Rossa (240 km/h) – United Arab Emirates
The number one for years, now a solid second. At Ferrari World Abu Dhabi, you are launched to 240 km/h in 4.9 seconds. Because the track is located in the desert and you travel so fast, wearing safety goggles is mandatory here to protect your eyes from sand grains, which feel like bullets at this speed.
3. Top Thrill 2 (193 km/h) – United States
After a massive renovation, the classic Top Thrill Dragster has been reborn as Top Thrill 2. The track now features three launches (including one backward). It is the fastest roller coaster in North America and is known for its massive 128-meter-high tower that you race vertically up against.
4. Red Force (180 km/h) – Spain
For the fastest roller coaster in Europe, you have to go to Ferrari Land (part of PortAventura). The ride is short but extremely powerful. Within five seconds, you are at top speed and shoot 112 meters into the air. The sound of the launch sounds like a jet taking off.
5. Superman: Escape from Krypton (161 km/h) – United States
This ride at Six Flags Magic Mountain is unique because it launches you backward. You shoot up a tower at 160 km/h, where you are weightless for a moment before falling back toward the station face-down. It is an older track, but it still ranks among the absolute top.
6. Steel Dragon 2000 (153 km/h) – Japan
The Steel Dragon in Nagashima Spa Land does not use a launch, but a traditional chain lift. Because the first drop is so gigantically high (97 meters), the train reaches this enormous speed through pure gravity. It is also one of the longest roller coasters in the world, allowing you to enjoy the speed for a long time.
7. Fury 325 (153 km/h) – United States
This Giga Coaster is known as one of the best roller coasters in the world. The track is named after its height (325 feet) and the speed it reaches. Unlike the short launch tracks, this ride is full of fast turns and airtime hills where you are lifted out of your seat.
8. Millennium Force (150 km/h) – United States
A living legend. When this track opened in the year 2000, it was the first to break the 300-foot barrier. It is often called the best steel roller coaster ever because of its smoothness and the beautiful view over Lake Erie… if you dare to look, at least.
9. Leviathan (148 km/h) – Canada
The fastest roller coaster in Canada towers high above the Canada’s Wonderland park. Like Fury 325, this is a speed monster without inversions (you do not go upside down). The ride is purely about speed, height, and the feeling of flying.
10. Orion (146 km/h) – United States
We close the list with the blue giant from Kings Island. Although it is slightly lower and slower than the other Giga Coasters in this list, the first drop of 91 meters is enough to send your stomach into your throat.
