Marvel Cinematic Universe (2011-2019)

Evans's role as Steve Rogers, aka Captain America, is his life's work within the MCU. From The First Avenger to Avengers: Endgame, he grew from an idealistic 1940s soldier into the moral compass of the Marvel universe. The character could easily have been boring, but Evans gave him warmth, doubt, and humor. Not every installment is equally strong (Age of Ultron had its weak moments), but as a whole it's an impressive arc that cemented his place at the top.

#2

Knives Out (2019)

A delightful contrast to his superhero image. In Rian Johnson's modern whodunit, Evans plays Ransom Drysdale, the spoiled heir with plenty of charm, ego, and too little morality. He visibly relishes the chance to be nasty. The film is sharp, funny, and tightly directed, and Evans steals nearly every scene. Proof he has more to offer than heroics.

#3

Snowpiercer (2013)

Bong Joon-ho's dystopian allegory unfolds on a train endlessly racing through a frozen world. Evans plays Curtis, leader of the third-class uprising. The film is visually overwhelming, sometimes messy, but powerful in theme and tone. Evans plays it restrained and raw, with a believable exhaustion that fits the story. One of his most mature performances.

#4

Sunshine (2007)

In Danny Boyle's science fiction drama about a mission to reignite the sun, Evans plays engineer Mace. He's not the lead, but he's the grounded counter-voice within a slowly unraveling crew. The film is atmospheric and gripping, and Evans brings a rarely used gravity to it. Sometimes overlooked in his career, but a key role in his growth toward more complex characters.

#5

Gifted (2017)

A restrained family drama in which Evans plays an uncle who has custody of his gifted niece. Away from the action, close to real life. The film is formulaic, but Evans elevates it with his warmth and timing. His chemistry with child star Mckenna Grace makes it believable and moving. One of his most likable roles.

#6

The Iceman (2012)

A dark crime film based on the life of hitman Richard Kuklinski. Evans plays Mr. Freezy, a bizarre, cold-blooded henchman with a smile that's anything but reassuring. It's a small but striking role that proves he can bring grimness too. The film itself is uneven, but his appearance is its most memorable element.

#7

Not Another Teen Movie (2001)

His first lead role, before superhero fame. Evans parodies every teen-movie cliche here as Jake Wyler, the athletic guy with a heart of gold. The humor is broad, but the timing is perfect. The film has since become a cult classic and shows how natural his comedic instincts always were.

#8

Before We Go (2014)

A small romantic film Evans directed himself. He plays a musician who helps a woman after a missed train in New York. The film has its limitations, but the atmosphere feels genuine and the chemistry with Alice Eve works. A charming attempt at something more personal, showing he wants more than studio films.

#9

Scott Pilgrim vs. The World (2010)

In Edgar Wright's hyperactive cult film, Evans plays Lucas Lee, a self-absorbed action hero and one of the 'evil exes.' He visibly enjoys parodying his own tough-guy image. The film is visually exhausting for some, but also inventive and witty. Evans shows he can shine amid chaos too.

#10

Cellular (2004)

A tightly constructed thriller in which Evans plays a young surfer who gets pulled into a kidnapping through a random phone call. The film isn't a classic, but it holds the tension well. Evans is energetic and likable, showing he can be a convincing hero even without superpowers. Chris Evans has since shed his superhero suit, but his filmography proves there's more behind Captain America's strength.

#11

Evans forms a love triangle with Dakota Johnson and Pedro Pascal in this romantic drama from Celine Song, met with strong reviews.
