9 Best Movies Featuring Thor

Thor's character development in Endgame is one of the boldest choices in the MCU. After his failure in Infinity War he hits rock bottom, struggling with guilt, depression and self-doubt, and the film shows how he has to rise again as a hero. His conversation with his mother and the epic moment he wields Stormbreaker and Mjolnir together in the finale make this his most emotional and epic appearance.

This film redefined Thor as a character, with more humor, style and spectacle than ever. Under Taika Waititi's direction, Thor's comic side was amplified without losing his heroic core. The introduction of Hela as villain, the epic destruction of Asgard and Thor becoming the God of Thunder without his hammer make it one of the best MCU films ever.

This is Thor at his strongest. His storyline with Rocket and Groot to forge Stormbreaker gives him an epic hero's journey. The scene where he storms into Wakanda shouting 'Bring me Thanos!' is one of the best moments in the MCU. Unfortunately, he misses his chance to kill Thanos outright, leading to the tragic Snap.

The first Avengers film shows Thor as a warrior god among humans, still learning how Earth works. His brotherly dynamic with Loki, his clashes with Iron Man and the Hulk, and the epic Battle of New York make it a fantastic Thor film.

Thor's first solo adventure was a Shakespearean superhero film directed by Kenneth Branagh. It beautifully introduces Asgard, builds his relationship with Loki and gives Thor a strong arc from arrogant prince to noble hero. The pace is slow and much of the Earth-bound part feels less epic, but it's still a solid start to his journey.

The film has a few iconic Thor moments, like the Mjolnir-lifting contest and his vision of Ragnarok, but he gets less to do than in the other Avengers films. It plants seeds for his future but feels like a transitional story for him.

After the success of Ragnarok, Taika Waititi pushed the comedy even further but lost the balance. Gorr (Christian Bale) is a strong villain, but Thor's storyline feels too slapstick. His relationship with Jane Foster as the Mighty Thor had great potential, but the film doesn't fully seize the emotional opportunity. Entertaining, but a step back after Ragnarok.

This is the least memorable MCU film featuring Thor. His relationship with Loki remains a highlight and Frigga's death has impact, but the villain Malekith is completely forgettable and the film feels like the most generic superhero movie in the franchise.

After the loose humor of Love and Thunder, the Russo brothers bring Thor back to the broken, serious king they portrayed so well in Infinity War and Endgame. Chris Hemsworth plays a leading role opposite Robert Downey Jr.'s Doctor Doom, with early footage showing Thor praying to Odin about the fatherhood he never expected. A return to the tragic leader Thor seems exactly what the character needed.
