Lights off, spotlight on! Have you ever wondered who actually decides what we watch in the cinema or on the couch? From the giants that colored your childhood to the tech giants that consumed your evenings: these are the entertainment giants responsible for your favorite films.

Disney (The Walt Disney Studios)
Number one! The House of Mouse owns almost everything you love. They started with cartoons a long time ago, but have now swallowed up Marvel, Star Wars, Pixar and 20th Century Fox. If you go to the movies, there's a 50% chance you'll give your money to Mickey Mouse. The undisputed king of the entertainment world.
Universal Pictures
Disney's eternal rival. Universal knows exactly what scores: dinosaurs and fast cars. With franchises such as Jurassic Park and Fast & Furious they attract full houses. And don't forget the Minions! Thanks to their animation branch Illumination, they score hit after hit with young and old.

Warner Bros. Pictures
Warner Brothers is home to Harry Potter, the hobbits from The Lord of the Rings and all DC Comics superheroes (Batman, Superman). They've been around for over 100 years and have the most legendary film library of them all.

Sony Pictures
You used to see 'Columbia TriStar' everywhere, but since the takeover it has been Sony that calls the shots. Their greatest asset? A certain web-slinger. Spider-Man is their gold mine, and with the brilliant Spider-Verse they have reinvented animation. Smart move by Sony: they have not started their own expensive streaming service, but simply sell their films to Netflix for the top price.

Paramount Pictures
The oldest operating studio in Hollywood! Paramount seemed to be slumping for a while, but then Top Gun: Maverick came along and blew everyone away. They are also the bosses behind Mission: Impossible, Transformers and (for the kids) SpongeBob.

Netflix
Technically a tech company, but you can't ignore them anymore. Netflix pumps out more films per year than all other studios combined. From expensive blockbusters like Red Notice to Oscar contenders like The Irishman. They have changed the way we watch films forever: no longer queuing for a ticket, but binging from the couch.

Amazon MGM Studios
What do you do if you are the richest online retailer in the world and you want to make films? Right, you're just buying a legendary studio. Amazon bought MGM (the roaring lion one) and now owns James Bond and Rocky. With Jeff Bezos' deep pockets, they have instantly become a heavyweight in Hollywood.

Apple Studios
Where Netflix goes for quantity (lots of films), Apple goes for quality. They throw money around to get the best directors (like Martin Scorsese). The result? They were the first streaming service ever to win the Oscar for Best Picture with CODA. They may make fewer films, but when they drop one, the whole world watches.

Lionsgate
The βbiggest of the little onesβ. Lionsgate is not part of a gigantic media group, but still manages to score time and time again with hard-hitting action and young adult hits. This is the studio that gave us The Hunger Games, Twilight and John Wick. If you like films with a raw edge, Lionsgate is the place to be.

A24
The odd one out, but the coolest! A24 is the darling of film fans and hipsters worldwide. They don't have the budgets of Disney, but they do have the Oscars (Everything Everywhere All At Once). They don't make safe sequels, but bizarre, scary and beautiful films like Midsommar and Moonlight. The only studio whose fans wear the logo on a T-shirt.
